Highland Pointe
Their Story
These clients are world travelers. During our initial meetings, they told me about their travels: the places they had been, the things they had seen, and the prized possessions they found along the way. They even shared a photo album from one of their favorite trips to Africa. They wanted to remodel their lower level and also make use of an almost-forgotten room adjacent to the kitchen. The lower level needed to include a place for their young grandchildren to play so that they might enjoy the room as a family.
Their Home
African Inspired Lower Level Family Room
The inspiration pieces for the design of the client’s lower level are a drum table and accessories purchased on a trip to Africa twenty years prior to this remodel. The pictures from their photo album inspired and informed our selections of furnishings and finishes. The drum table’s woody, natural look is reflected throughout the room. Natural elements juxtaposed with sophisticated streamlined furniture and plaid wool carpet set the tone. The bar was updated with a Brazilian leathered quartzite top reflecting the warm and cool tones throughout the space. A play area for the grandchildren was incorporated into the room layout by design so that the kids would not feel cut off from the adults.
French Country Breakfast Room
This breakfast room was created by reclaiming a little-used room right off of the kitchen and hearth room. The client wanted to update the room making it bright and airy and inviting. The French country table and chairs were chosen for their casual feel and the vintage French-inspired chandelier added simple elegance to this comfortable breakfast room. Using input from the client, I created a one of a kind drapery panel fabric that compliments the chair fabrics, stands out as a unique unifying element and pulls in the existing area rug.
